A Note from Erica

As a woman dedicated to my work and family, I’m normally quite private. Yet, my vision is to help women and caregivers facing a mastectomy to be confident in their choices, free from fear, and see a better future.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, a woman I barely knew offered to show me her reconstructed breasts after having a mastectomy years earlier.  The opportunity to see the future gave me tremendous hope and confidence. My goal is to pay it forward and provide that experience to thousands of women facing a mastectomy.

This book is filled with vulnerable photos before, during, and after major surgeries. These are mastectomy pictures you can’t often find safely. Trust me, don’t Google! :)

I want to be a friend to women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer or the BRCA gene in years to come.

About Erica

Erica Neubert Campbell is a breast cancer survivor and a β€œcancer orphan” after losing her mother to breast cancer over 20 years ago. Since 1997, she has dedicated her life to supporting cancer patients and supporters.

Erica currently leads the Pinky Swear Foundation, a nonprofit that keeps the promise to help kids with cancer and their families with financial and emotional support. In her debut memoir, The Mastectomy I Always Wanted, Erica creates vulnerable and trusting spaces as a way to create a community of support.

She lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with her husband, Ian, and children, Amelia and Duncan. You can find her traveling in a 2008 Winnebago RV in the summer, embracing the cold in the winter, and cheering enthusiastically on the sidelines of kid sports year-round. Erica loves authenticity, connection, and the unexpected ways a vision comes to life.

Side note: Ironically, I’m not the only Erica Campbell with a story to share. There is Erica Campbellβ€”a former porn star. And Erica Campbellβ€”a gospel singer. My breasts and I fall somewhere in between. :)
